Southwestern Illinois Demographics

Madison and St. Clair counties remain the second most populous region in the State of Illinois with a combined population that is projected to reach 527,105 this year. Median household income continues to rise for area residents, growing from $40,345 in 2000 to an estimated $45,593 in 2005 and $48,098 in 2007. Per capita income also is on the rise, up from $19,721 in 2000 to $24,092 today. The percentage of individuals earning a high school diploma or higher is holding steady at just over 83%, and the percentage earning a bachelor's degree or higher is estimated to be 19.9% for 2007.
